Activities of the Faculty

The major activities of the Faculty of Chemistry in Belgrade are higher education and scientific work both of which are very significant for the Republic of Serbia and integrated in the international, especially European, educational and scientific environment.

Educational and scientific work at the Faculty is conducted and organized in the way established by the Statute of the University which is in compliance with the laws which regulate higher education and scientific research work.

Educational Activity

The Faculty of Chemistry was accredited for the following programmes of study by the decision number 612-00-00162/7/2020-03 of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission of the Republic of Serbia issued on November 6th 2020:

  • Basic academic studies: Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental chemistry;
  • Integrated academic studies: Chemistry Education;
  • Graduate studies (MSc): Chemistry; Biochemistry; Environmental Chemistry;
  • Doctoral studies (PhD): Chemistry; Biochemistry.

Educational activity at the Faculty of Chemistry in Belgrade is carried out through scientific programmes of studies.

The academic and professional studies are organized in three cycles (degrees) at the Faculty of Chemistry in Belgrade:

The first cycle studies are:
  1. Basic academic studies which last four (4) years (240 ECTS credits)
The second cycle studies are:
  1. Graduate academic studies - master, which last one (1) year (60 ECTS credits)
  2. Specialist academic studies, which last one (1) year (60 ECTS credits), and a student can enrol after finishing graduate academic studies
  3. Specialist professional studies, which last one (1) year (60 ECTS credits), which a student can enrol without finishing graduate academic studies

The first two study cycles (basic and graduate) at the Faculty of Chemistry in Belgrade carry 300 ECTS credits altogether, in other words they last 5 years.

The third cycle studies are:
  1. Doctoral academic studies, which last three (3) years and carry 180 ECTS credits; a student can enrol after previously achieving a volume of studies of at least 300 ECTS credits at the basic academic and graduate academic studies.

There are two kinds of studies which differ in the degrees and knowledge levels:

  • Academic studies, which aim at enabling students to develop and apply scientific and professional achievements (these programmes are largely based on theory, preparation for research, or they prepare students for professions which set high demands regarding skills). Academic studies involve more theoretical work - such as projects, research and development.
  • Professional studies, which aim at enabling students to apply the knowledge and skills needed to join the process of work (these programmes are more practice-orientated, focused on various techniques or particular professions). Professional studies are more focused on solving practical problems - such as production and maintenance.

Accreditation of the Faculty of Chemistry as a higher education institution

The Faculty of Chemistry was accredited for the following programmes of study by the decision number 612-00-00162/7/2020-03 of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission of the Republic of Serbia issued on November 6th 2020:

The Faculty of Chemistry was accredited for the first time by the decision number 119-01-68/2008-04 issued on April 12th 2008.

Scientific activities

The Faculty carries out its scientific activity as an equally important aspect of its general activities.

Scientific work is carried out thorough basic, applied and development research performed in order to further develop science and profession, improve the quality of teaching, improve one's scientific knowledge and professional skills, motivate the younger generation of people to work in the fields of science and education, introduce students into the world of science work as well as to create financial requirements for the Faculty to operate and develop.

The Faculty of Chemistry was accredited for scientific researh by the decision No. 021-01-17/20 of the Ministry of education, science and technological develpoment of Republic of Serbia issued on December 17th 2019: accreditation certificate.

System of studies

The Faculty of Chemistry organizes and carries out studies during a school year which starts on 1 October and lasts for 12 calendar moths.

The school year is divided into two semesters, each of which lasts for 15 weeks. All course work is organized and carried out during one semester.

All other details relating to the system of studies are regulated by the Faculty's Statute.

Language of studies

Studies are organized and carried out in the Serbian language.

We organize and carry out studies, some parts of studies or make it possible for students to write and present their doctoral thesis in the languages of national minorities or another foreign language as regulated by the Statute.

Organization of studies

The Faculty of Chemistry organizes and carries out studies through direct work with students and through direct course work. We do not organize and carry out our studies and study programmes as distance learning.
