Short description of the project

In TMMagCat, we will rationally design and synthesize TM complexes with improved magnetic properties and propose novel single-molecular magnets. These materials are potential candidates for several technological applications, like ultrahigh-density information storage, spin-based electronics, and quantum computing. In TMMagCat, we will also develop reaction conditions based on rational design strategies to create the next generation of non-noble, TM-based catalysts that will be the foundation for cheap, environmentally friendly Earth-abundant materials. Selectivity, efficiency, and robustness in such synthetic catalysts critically depend on a deep understanding of the mechanisms, and hence an in-depth characterization of the initial complexes and intermediates. The research planned in the TMMagCat lies at the forefront of current research in coordination, theoretical inorganic chemistry, and catalysis. Integrated and systematic approaches we plan to develop are in marked contrast to the usual serendipity-based progress in this area.
